Update: go here to get the actual book!
The deal for my new book, My First Kafka: Runaways, Rodents, and Giant Bugs, was listed in Publisher's Weekly this week! It's still about a zillion years away from being published (it's a picture book, and we don't even have an artist yet), but I'm excited. I'll let you know when I know anything -- although I don't really know anything at all, yet.
Except that the book is written. I do know that. And I was reading it at 5:00 this morning and getting all sorts of chills, the good kind and the kind that you get when something inhuman is watching you from a dark corner of the room, and I think you'll like it.
Here's the sale notice:
Children's: Picture book
Matthue Roth's MY FIRST KAFKA: RUNAWAYS, RODENTS, AND GIANT BUGS, a charming and delightful - or, at least, an oppressive and unsightly - introduction for precocious children, Goths, and literary nerds, to Robert McGuire at One Peace Books, by Marissa Walsh at FinePrint Literary Management (World).

you are SUCH a rockstar!
More like a nerd star! But thank you!
Kafka's best friend towards the end of his life was JIRI LANGER, a BELZER HASSID, and Kafka loved Hassidic history, and the wonderful insights of the Hasidic gedolim, and Jiri would teach Hebrew to Franz too. These authors works were saved and published by MAX BRODY, their friend and agent. Jiri langer's "NINE GATES" is simply brilliant, and we all know KAFKA and his brilliance.....true ENLIGHTENMENT! Kol HaKavod on your book deal.
Thank you, goodbird! I'm a huge fan of Jiri Langer. I had no idea that they knew each other. Totally makes sense. Nine Gates was one of the first books I read when I became Orthodox. At some point I decided I needed to run away from Prague and go look for a lost group of Belzer Chasidim in the mountains. Never happened, but it still might.
